Strategic Learning Reflection #1

The quiz said that I was a visual learner, that means that I learn best by seeing things. I agree with this because I like to look at pictures, read stuff, and watch videos. I can use this to help me with my work because now I know how I work best and how I remember and learn better. I think the best strategies for me is to draw pictures and graphs and also watch videos.

Character Extension Project - Written

Out of My Mind

Do you ever wonder what it would be like if you couldn’t walk, eat, go to the bathroom, or even talk without somebody or something helping you? Well that’s what some people have to go through everyday of their lives, specifically people who suffer from cerebral palsy. One victim of this sickness is Melody. Melody faces many pressures in her life, due to her case of cerebral palsy, that she will have to face, but she is not alone, she has her friends and family right by her side.
Melody, from the book Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper, despite her disability, has a super smart brain, probably the smartest in her school. She has a photographic memory and remembers anything she hears or sees. Melody is also diagnosed with Chromesthesia, which means she sees different colors when she hears specific sounds. She is a girl that has to face not only the disability that cerebral palsy brings, but also with the problems of having a super-smart brain that nobody knows, except for herself. Between trying to get on the quiz team and trying to make people understand what she is saying, Melody is transformed into determined young mind.
Melody has to go through what all victims of cerebral palsy have to go through, being laughed at. She tells her friends about it and they all tell her to stay strong. Melody’s friends and family support her and tell her to not care what others think. They tell her to pick herself up and keep going, to not be put down by what other people say. Something else, something even worse than being laughed at, even her teacher thinks Melody is dumb. Mr. Dimming, one of Melody’s teachers thinks she is dumb, just the way she looks, he thinks that Melody can’t make it on the quiz team and says, "If Melody Brooks can win the first round, my questions must not be hard enough!" Yet again though, her friends are by her side, supporting her all the way. They tell her to be determined and that they would help her get on the quiz team, and she made it!
No matter how much support you get though, life is never peaceful. It will keep throwing more problems at you. Melody also faces problems at home, and one is very very tragic. Penny, Melody’s baby sister got hit by a car… their car. Melody’s whole family is depressed, and as she attempts to calm her mother down, she only wishes for one thing… her baby sister is lucky and doesn’t turn out like she has, disabled and confined to a wheelchair. Melody’s friends reassure her and talk to her saying that Penny will be fine and Melody and her family stay strong and hope for the best.

Through all this , Melody’s friends and family have supported her and shaped her into a determined and not easily put down person. They have faced many challenges but through determination and hope have managed. So whenever you ever find yourself facing a problem, be confident, hopeful, and face it with determination. Just like Melody.

Sending Reflection

Day 1 - 3:13

Day 3 - 0:50

Two Things I Did Well At:
  • Pointing my finger at my target before I throw
  • Accuracy
Two Things I Need To Work On:
  •  Don't let my arms be so flimsy
  • Shifting my weight from my back foot to the front foot
Did you notice any improvement?
I think I improved a little with my throwing skills.

How well did you apply your sending skills when playing Tchoukball?
I think I applied my throwing skills well while playing Tchoukball. I had good accuracy and I didn't take the extra 2 steps that I could that would disrupt my throwing.

Gr. 6 Final Scripted Drama

I think my projection is pretty good, I was speaking loudly and I could hear myself clearly. I don't think my facial expression was ok, I didn't really have different facial expressions. My vocal variety was pretty good though, I wasn't speaking in a monotone voice. Overall, I think my group was pretty good, everyone remembered their lines (except for Harrison, it wasn't his fault, the person who was supposed to play the king wasn't here) and you could hear everyone. I think my number changed from 7.5 to 8.5. I see how fun drama can be. Also, I used to think remembering lines were pretty hard but it's actually pretty easy!

Measurement of Matter Science Unit Reflection

We just finished our Measurement of Matter unit in science, this unit was all about learning how to something mass, volume, and density.
I learned many new things in this unit. One thing learned was that the density of pure water is one 1 g/cm3 and if an object had a density lower than 1 g/cm3 it will float, if an object had a density higher than 1g/cm3 it will sink. Also that to find the density of an object, you have to divide the mass by the volume. From there I used math and saw that if the mass was lower than the volume the density would be lower than 1 g/cm3 and would float, and if the mass was greater than the volume it would have a density higher than 1 g/cm3 and would sink. Also, of course, we learned new vocabulary! For example 'immiscible', two or more liquids that cannot mix, 'ballast', anything that is appended to an object to help it sink, and many others.
I think the most memorable and meaningful thing we did was building our own submarine. We not only learned to really understand how submarines work and change their density. We also learned that if you fail, try and try again.
